Sri Lanka marked World Child Labour Day on 12th June by issuing this stamp featuring a child carrying what seems to be a heavy burden in the form of words “No to labour – Yes to quality education”. The illustration is mediocre but overall it’s not a bad stamp.
A first day cover has also been issued with a smiling pink flower as a motif.
I don’t understand why the flower is happy about children suffering. Shouldn’t it have been a sad face to match the miserable brat on the stamp?
The title of this post was taken from a Stephen King short story which he himself once critiqued as having “no redeeming social merit whatever”. Must be why I enjoyed it and the movie that followed!
